The Challenge
Canvasly's prototype whiteboard desynchronized when more than five users collaborated, making it unusable for the enterprise workshops it targeted.
Our Solution
We rebuilt the canvas engine on CRDTs (Yjs) with WebSocket sync via a horizontally scaled Node cluster, supporting 100+ concurrent editors per board. Next.js powers the workspace UI with comments, version history and enterprise SSO, while board templates target workshops, sprint planning and system design.
The Results
Canvasly reached 45K teams in year one with 61% week-four retention. Sessions now average 43 minutes with zero sync-conflict production incidents since launch.
